Winter in Chicago just begs for a large bowl of steaming hot ramen, so why not do it up right and pair it with an unexpected glass of…vino?
Introducing Ramen-san‘s vintage German Prädikat Riesling list, curated by RPM Wine Director, Richard Hanauer, which is stocked with bottles from the most prestigious regions of Germany dating back to 1975!
Make a reservation at Ramen-san, and don’t forget to ask for the Riesling menu, available only to those that are in-the-know!
Why Riesling, You Say?
Short answer: Because it’s delicious.
Turn the Heat Up with Older Vintages: The list focuses on older bottlings, which posses savory and umami notes rather than sweet and fruity ones. This counterbalances ramen’s heat and range of spices.
Body to Body: It may seem counterintuitive, but the complex, intense body of both ramen and Riesling play well off each other. The secondary Asian spice notes from the ramen is balanced out by the roaring acidity of the wine, which acts as a flavor enhancer.
We asked Richard to choose his favorite dishes from Ramen-san to enjoy alongside a bottle of vintage Riesling – check ’em out!
